Can You Vacuum Seal Frozen Meat?

Posted on July 13 2017

Can you vacuum seal frozen meat

Many hunters, who are newly introduced to the concept of storing food in vacuum sealer bags, find themselves asking: “Can I vacuum seal already frozen meat?”

The answer is a resounding, “Yes!”

If you already have a freezer full of last year's kill, you can pull that meat out and seal it in FoodVacBags vacuum sealer bags to save it much longer. Since vacuum sealing removes the oxygen from the bag, you can be sure that you will not find meat freezer-burned when it comes time to throw it on the grill. In fact, meat stored in a vacuum sealer bag can last up to 3 years, 6 times its normal safe storage life! Storing meat in paper, or regular Ziploc bags, just can’t compete.

Check out this Extended Storage Chart that includes many different types of meats.

I love my 8″ × 12″ food vac bags for freezing whole salmon filets…. well, a lot of filets since I live in Alaska. The precut bags make the process a whole lot easier and faster, but I always have to cut my filets to make them fit the 12" bags. I wish I could find 8″ × 18″ bags somewhere. That would be one way to corner the Alaskan market for food saver bags!

I’ve been sealing my meat for years and have used meat that is several years old with no problems. It’s the best way I have found to keep my game.
