Pack for Vacation Like A Pro

Whether you are filling the trunk of your car or fitting a week's worth of clothes in a carry-on bag, these tips help you pack like a pro:

Roll, baby, roll!

Rolled clothes actually take up a lot less room than folded ones. Instead of neatly folding your vacation wardrobe, roll it all. Fold pants, skirts and shirts in half lengthwise before rolling for fewest wrinkles. Consider rolling other malleable items, such as a baby blanket, summer jacket or a tote bag (for all of your vacation finds). Rolled under-garments may also fit into shoes, helping you save even more space.

Leave it home

Be conscientious about how many outfits you really need for the length of time you're away. Bringing a good pair of jeans, dressy slacks/skirt and a couple of wrinkle-free shirts can keep you going for quite a long time, especially if you are good with accessories like fashion scarves. Yes, you can wear the same shirt a few times…it’s vacation!! For long stays, throw some laundry detergent pods in a sealed bag, so you can hit a laundromat mid-trip.

For electronics, set a limit on how many different devices you bring with you. You can easily overload yourself if you take the tablet, the laptop, the e-reader, the music player and so on - try to bring one device that does all of these things. It's also a good idea to have the kids share one device and the grownups another so not everyone needs to bring their own.

Shrink it up

Use your vacuum sealer to compress smaller items, like baby's clothes or an emergency set of clean underwear for the kids. If you're traveling with a baby, never discount the power of your vacuum sealer to pack up diapers in a surprisingly small package to help you save space. Not sure if it will get cold at night? Vacuum seal a bulky sweater. You’ll likely not need it, but it won’t take up too much space and you’ll feel more secure. Seal liquid toiletries, so they don’t open and stain your clothes.

Don’t forget the food

Snack packs are a necessity for road trips and small vacuum sealer bags ensure that everything tastes as good as they day you packed it (despite summer humidity). Cut up the apple at home and it won’t get brown while waiting to be enjoyed. The last thing you want on a fun summer vacation, is a hungry, grumpy traveler, so bring along their favorites and save money at the airport or gas station stop.
