Can You Vacuum Seal Lettuce?

Posted on June 19 2017

Can you vacuum seal lettuce

Yes, you can vacuum seal lettuce. Typically, vacuum-sealed lettuce can last up to two weeks in the refrigerator, more than double its usual lifespan of three to six days! Start by cutting your lettuce however you would like. Then, thoroughly wash it and use a salad spinner to dry. For the best results, you may also want to blanch the lettuce before sealing. Once you have cleaned and dried the lettuce, you can seal it.

To keep from crushing it during the sealing process, we recommend sealing lettuce in vacuum canisters. Carey canisters are available in two sizes, and are perfect for those who don't have a vacuum seal machine, as they run on batteries.

If you have a vacuum sealer and coordinating vacuum seal canisters, follow these steps. To seal, add the lettuce to your canister and attach the lid. Turn the knob on top until the arrow is pointing to “Vacuum.” Attach one end of the hose to the canister, and the other end to the accessory port on your machine. Run your machine according the instructions that came with it. Then, turn the knob on the canister to the “Lock” position, and remove the hose.

It is possible to seal lettuce in a vacuum seal bag provided that your machine has a pulse setting or allows you to seal the bag without vacuuming all of the air out. In a sealed bag, lettuce will stay fresh longer than it would stored in an open container, though it won’t last as long as it would in a vacuum canister.

Now that you know how to seal lettuce, here’s another handy tip. You can make a large batch of your favorite salad recipe, and divide it into multiple canisters or bags to save for daily lunches! We recommend adding the dressing immediately before you eat the salad, as storing it in the container or bag will cause wilting. I bet my question has been asked before: Can lettuce (like the Organic Spring Mix by Josie’s organics, sold at COSTO) be vacuumed sealed that’s already been washed & dried by manufacturer?

Used these machines for years. Essential kitchen tool especially if you’re single. I can buy bulk fruits and vegetables and vacuum seal them for later use. Saves a great deal of money and I’m not throwing out food as I used to. Also great to do meal plans.

I recently purchased a vacuum sealing machine and I absolutely love it.
There are SO MANY things you can use it for.
And my fridge food is lasting weeks instead of days = buying less + less wastage !!
Get yourself one, I guarantee you wont regret it.
